Sicario 3: Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and Benicio Del Toro interested in the sequel

Last September, rumors started circulating that Sicario 3 is in the works, but now we have some exciting news about the fate of the sequel. Amidst the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, the producers of the franchise, Molly Smith and Trent Luckinbill, spoke to Collider in a recent interview and revealed that the entire original cast wants to return for the third film. Until recently, Benicio Del Toro, who starred alone in Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado, was the one who had spoken most with the producers about Sicario 3, but it seems that the other two are also interested.

In other words, it has been confirmed that both Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin, as well as Emily Blunt, are “in” for Sicario 3, as they formed the main trio in the first Sicario (2015), directed by Denis Villeneuve, which was nominated for three Academy Awards.

As the producers stated to Collider, “Our goal is to bring back the cast with Benicio, Emily, and Josh, and we have a great story to tell…Benicio, due to his recent collaboration with us, was perhaps the closest at the moment. But we keep all the contributors informed. The strike delayed us a bit with this final draft, but I think everyone is very excited. Everyone has some knowledge of the story framework and they are very excited that, hopefully, we will have our shooting schedule in order very soon.”

Because the actors’ union is still on strike, Brolin, Del Toro, and Blunt cannot finalize their contracts based on SAG-AFTRA rules. Essentially, once a solution is found to this issue that has been plaguing Hollywood for months, then the production of Sicario 3 can proceed in terms of scheduling the busy schedules of the three protagonists.
